We surveyed 3,370 respondents regarding their new and traditional media usage for the update to our Media Usage Report.   The sample consists of 56% male respondents 44% female respondents. 70% of respondents are 18 – 24 years old, 21% are between 25 and 34 years, 7% are 35 years and older. Only 2% of respondents are younger than 18 years.

  • 72% of South Africans use Facebook daily
  • Women are 19% more likely to use Facebook daily and men are 23% more likely to use Snapchat daily
  • Young adults, 18 to 24 years, are 8% LESS likely to use Facebook but more likely to engage on all other social media platforms
  • Adults 25 to 34 years are 31% more likely to use Facebook daily
  • More people have used Facebook in the last week than watched TV
  • Consumer’s psychographics, in addition to their demographics, impact their media behavior
  • Most consumers listen to live radio broadcasts at home in the morning
  • 20% of consumers say they listen to podcasts, and 17% download podcasts daily
  • 28% of consumers watch YouTube
  • Passengers are connected – 43% use social media in transit
